CARLOS GARRIDO GARCÍA, SONOGRAPHIST, PRENATAL DIAGNOSIS, GYNECOLOGIST

An early prenatal diagnosis is of the utmost importance, since it allows us to identify or rule out the presence of possible genetic alterations in the fetus, in order to advise parents if any of them are identified.

3D ultrasound makes it possible to diagnose certain fetal malformations more precisely than conventional ultrasound. The purpose of our ultrasounds is not to make an image report, but to make the most accurate diagnosis possible of the baby. We gave the mother all the images of the test. among which are some 4D images, if the position of the fetus allows it. However most of the images will be made in 3D

The services offered  by the Ultrasound and Prenatal Diagnosis Unit are:

High resolution obstetric ultrasound during normal pregnancy:

  • First trimester ultrasound (11-14 weeks): aims to date the gestation, confirm fetal vitality, study fetal anatomy, assess placental insertion, and study ultrasound markers of Down syndrome (nuchal fold, nasal bone, study Doppler of fetal vessels...). Together with this ultrasound, the combined screening for chromosomopathies in the first trimester is offered, which combines the data from the ultrasound, with analytical data and maternal age to advise on the need for additional tests such as amniocentesis, chorionic biopsy o_cc781905-5cde- 3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_ the study of fetal DNA in maternal blood.

  • Morphological ultrasound a of the second trimester (19-22 weeks): detailed study of the fetal anatomy. Although it has its limitations, it allows the detection of the most important congenital anomalies or fetal malformations. In addition, the risk of preterm birth can be assessed by measuring the length of the cervix, and the risk of preeclampsia by Doppler study of the uterine arteries.

  • Third trimester ultrasound: its main objective is the assessment of fetal growth and well-being, the function of the placenta through the Doppler study of the umbilical cord and the main blood vessels of the fetus, and the evaluation of amniotic fluid.

  • High-resolution obstetric ultrasound during high-risk pregnancy: follow-up and advice in high-risk pregnancies due to maternal pathology (gestational diabetes, AHT - Preeclampsia, risk of premature birth, chronic disease...) or fetal pathology (alterations in fetal growth, alterations of amniotic fluid, congenital malformations or risk of intra utero infections).

  • High-resolution gynecological ultrasound: Allows visualization of the uterus, endometrium, and ovaries, as well as its vascularization by means of the Doppler study, which allows the diagnosis of gynecological pathologies such as fibroids, endometrial polyps, ovarian cysts, malignant pathologies (cancer of the endometrial, ovarian cancer). It also allows ruling out/diagnosing uterine malformations by using the 3D reconstruction technique.
